- Pioneer Motorcycle ClubBased in Christchurch, the Pioneer Motorcycle Club is one the largest motorcycle trials clubs in New Zealand. In the past our club was involved in all types of motorcycle events from beach racing to enduros and road trials but it it has now evolved into a club which specialises in the running of moto trials. Events are held once a month at properties on Banks Peninsula and in north Canterbury. The club also hosts the Kaikoura 3 day trial. This event has been run uninterrupted every Queens Birthday weekend since 1946, which makes it one of the longest running multi-day trial events in the world. Club events cater to all ranges of ability from beginner to expert riders. We are affiliated to Motorcycling New Zealand (MNZ), which regulates all motorcycle competition events. As part of the riders registration fee MNZ provides rider insurance and club third party insurance. Our club began in 1914 as a section of the Pioneer Cycle & Athletic Club and for a number of years it was called the Pioneer Motor Club. In 1933 it became a separate entity but continued to be affiliated to the Pioneer Amateur Sports Club. This was a much larger organisation of many sports groups that shared a building on the corner of Gloucester and Oxford Terrace. When the building was sold in 1977 the proceeds from the sale were donated toward the building of Pioneer Stadium. Today only three of the original clubs still exist: the Pioneer Badminton Club, the Canterbury Mountaineering Club and the Pioneer Motorcycle Club. Our Committee meets are on the first Thursday of each month at the Stadium. For more infomation please visit the clubs website via the button at the top of the page.View club

- Tauranga Motorcycle ClubThe Tauranga Motorcycle Club was formed in 1949 to attract the increasing number of young motorcycle enthusiasts away from their “blasts” along Joyce Rd into organised and legitimate activities. The subscription was fixed at 10 shillings and events were organised regularly with considerable success. One of the early events required buses to take spectators to Papamoa to see beach and dune scrambles on tracks that had been cut through the lupins that morning. Reliability trials took riders and their pillions as far a field as Waitomo and Auckalnd. You had to know your bike to travel the timed sections (sevens miles at 20mph from Pyes Pa through the gorge to the Oropi quarry) without the aid of a speedo. Too fast lost you points but so did too slow. Farms in the area hosted track events and miniature TTs as well as obstacle bending and slow races and push bike races for boys. Some races were sweepstakes. The winner received 60 percent of the entry fees for the race, 30 percent went to the second rider and 10 percent to the third. Through the 1950s and into the mid-60s one bike and one set of tyres did everything. You could see a guy riding his bike to work during the week and then out on the tracks on the weekend. On the sand dunes, the road trials, the scrambles and grass tracks at Hastings’ paddock, the trial riding though streams and mud at Oropi, the hill climbs at Mcleod’s farm or the road circuit races, club members just attached a racing number and put on a cap or helmet to suit the event and they were off.View club
